Post Office & Federal Courts Building, 1937
Stacks Image 2192
This imposing Renaissance Revival style building became the third post office located on Alamo Plaza, replacing an 1886 facility at this location and an earlier building located nearby. Renowned local architect Ralph Cameron designed the building. Through a program administered by the Treasury Department’s Section of Fine Arts, artist Howard Cook painted the fresco murals in the lobby that depict "San Antonio's Importance in Texas History." The former post office now serves as the Hipolito F. Garcia Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse under the U.S. General Services Administration.
