Samuel Maverick’s sons, William H. and Albert Maverick, built this block of Italianate-style commercial buildings along what was the western wall of the Alamo compound. The English architect, Alfred Giles, designed many fine homes and commercial buildings in Texas and northern Mexico in the late 19th century.
