Hilton

Another structure relating to HemisFair ’68, the Hilton Palacio del Rio was built by the local construction firm owned by H.B. Zachry. The completion of the hotel four days prior to the opening of the World’s Fair represented a feat of engineering and managerial excellence. Modular rooms assembled offsite were layered on a narrow base set between South Alamo and the San Antonio River. A crane lifted and stacked each fully furnished room in its place and the first guests checked in 202 days after construction began.
