Assembly Building
Designed by O’Neil Ford, the Villita Assembly Hall is a two-story, round brick building 132 feet in diameter. The site previously held Station A, a large electrical plant dating to 1888, but Ford’s design complemented the human scale of La Villita, which he had helped restore twenty years earlier. O’Neil’s brother, Lynn Ford, created both the large wooden doors and the exterior ceramic medallions representing the seals of the six nations whose flags flew over Texas. Although it is not visible from the street, the Assembly Hall’s roof is painted with a large daisy, and is suspended on steel cables. CPS Energy owns the building and leases it for events, including A Night in Old San Antonio©.
