The Alameda Theatre and neighboring Casa de Mexico International Building, built in 1949, addressed the needs of the largely Mexican-American clientele of the western central business direct. N. Strauss Nayfach incorporated bright tiles, aluminum decorations and an 86-foot high sign in this late Modernistic structure. The San Antonio Conservation Society worked to save the building from demolition in 1982, and the city is currently restoring the theater as a Latin performing arts and film venue with a 2015 opening date.
